Guangxi Foreign Capital Poverty Reduction Project Management Center is committed to strengthening experience exchange and cooperation of International poverty reduction. Its relevant functions mainly include:

-Using foreign capital to organize and implement various international cooperation projects for poverty reduction;

-Undertaking the implementation task of China-aid poverty reduction cooperation projects in other countries, carry out the summary and exchange of international poverty reduction theory and practice, and the theoretical research and publicity of poverty reduction policy;

-Undertaking the ASEAN-China Forum on Social Development and Poverty Reduction and promoting the exchange of international experience in poverty reduction;

-Undertaking international poverty reduction training courses, building international poverty reduction training bases, and introducing the "Chinese Program" for poverty reduction.

Summary of Projects and Achievements

1. Capacity building:

Since 2005, Guangxi Foreign Capital Poverty Reduction Project Management Center has undertaken 25 international poverty reduction training courses, and more than 650 poverty reduction officials from 94 countries and 2 regional organizations in Asia, Africa and Latin America have come to Guangxi for knowledge exchange and study.

2. Knowledge exchange:

Guangxi Foreign Capital Poverty Reduction Project Management Center has undertaken 7 sessions of ASEAN-China Forum on Social Development and Poverty Reduction, and nearly 900 poverty reduction officials and experts from ASEAN countries, Japan and Korea attended the forum.

3. Project cooperation:

From 2015 to 2020, Guangxi Foreign Capital Poverty Reduction Project Management Center cooperated with the Department of Rural Development and Cooperatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Laos to implement the China-Laos Poverty Reduction Cooperation Community Demonstration Project and China-Aided China-Laos Poverty Reduction Cooperation Pilot Project in Laos, built 20 infrastructure and public service facilities projects such as roads, drinking water, bridges and clinics in three project villages in Laos, guided villagers to establish village level project management organizations, cultivated 10 villagers' cooperative organizations, developed characteristic industries such as cattle raising, greenhouse vegetables, weaving and rural tourism, organized and carried out 51 training and exchange activities, and more than 1200 project officers and villagers participated in the training in Laos. A series of follow-up management measures for infrastructure and industrial development have been formed, the production and living conditions of the village have been significantly improved, and the people's sustainable development ability has been greatly improved, which has been highly recognized and praised by the Lao government and local people.

Major SSTC Projects

The China-Laos Poverty Reduction Cooperation Community Demonstration Project

The China-Laos Poverty Reduction Cooperation Community Demonstration Project was implemented in Thadokkham village, Xaythany District, Vientiane Municipality, Laos from 2016 to 2020. It was one of the Lancang Mekong cooperation projects. The first phase of the project has built 13 steel frame greenhouses and cultivated 26 vegetable planting demonstration households, 15 hectares of organic rice were planted and 27 planting demonstration households were cultivated, 3 technical trainings on rainproof cultivation of organic vegetables and standardized rice planting were carried out, and 65 villagers were trained. The second phase of the project built 10 additional steel frame greenhouses with water facilities and paved gravel roads (production roads), carried out technical trainings for 100 persons on greenhouse organic vegetable planting, provided daily planting technical guidance, built a new village activity centre and supported relevant facilities. A total of 46 vegetable planting demonstration households have been cultivated, with an annual income of more than 10000 yuan per household, driving 64 farmers to plant vegetables on the land around the greenhouse.

With the increase of vegetable planting area, output and varieties, vegetable dealers are attracted to purchase regularly in the village. The sales channel is stable, and the product supply exceeds the demand. The villagers' income has increased and their living standards have improved greatly. In the past, more than 10 households in the village lived in dilapidated wooden houses. Now except for two households, the whole village has lived in brick houses. Thadokkham village has become a famous vegetable base from an unknown village in the past, and has created its own characteristic industry, pillar industry and wealth industry.

The China-Aided China-Laos Poverty Reduction Cooperation Pilot Project

The China-Aided China-Laos Poverty Reduction Cooperation Pilot Project in Laos was implemented in Ban Xor Village, Sangthong District, Vientiane Municipality and Xienglorm Village, Luang Prabang city of Laos from September 2017 to 2020. Built 4.16km asphalt roads in the village, 2 drinking water supply projects (covering 2891 people in 624 households), 1 steel truss bridge, 1 culvert in the production area, 2 village activity centres, 2 village clinics, 4 school dormitories, 2 school playgrounds, 2 school toilets, 22 solar street lamps and 2 weaving exhibition halls. Donated 2 batches of teaching equipment to the two village schools. Guided the two project villages to establish self-management organizations, cultivated 9 villagers' cooperative organizations, supported 176 demonstration households, raised 140 cattle, raised 4800 chickens, planted 9 greenhouse vegetables, 47 hectares of open-air vegetables, 40 hectares of corn, 40 households of weaving and 9 rural guest houses. Carried out 35 practical technical trainings and 826 villagers participated in the training. Organized 7 project management trainings and 248 project officers and villagers participated. Carried out 3 training sessions and 2 "friendly village" exchange visits in China with 61 participants from Laos.

The project has achieved obvious social, environmental and economic benefits, greatly improved the local infrastructure and public service facilities, solved the problems of difficult traffic and water use of the villagers in the project village, made it more convenient for the people to seek medical treatment, improved the school education conditions, beautified the village environment, enriched the people's spiritual and cultural life and broadened the vision of development. It has improved the self-management ability and sustainable development ability of villages and farmers, built diversified ways to increase income for project villages, especially poor households, and activated the endogenous driving force of villagers to get rid of poverty. After the construction of roads and solar street lamps in the village, various convenience stores and snack bars began to open at night. The proportion of poor households in the project village decreased from 52% in 2017 to 25% in 2020.
